Support Stem Cell Research While Bio-Ethics Is On Our Minds

The Terri Schiavo case has brought bio-ethics above the fold on the papers and all over the web. I am still researching the case from a Jewish perspective (although I hope to have a post soon).
Meanwhile, here is a petition about Stem Cell research in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

I just signed and urge you to do the same. If you are a reader from another state, write to your representatives about your support for Stem-Cell research.

Petition from MASS C.U.R.E.
Massachusetts Citizens United for Research Excellence

Dear Legislators

As men and women of religious faith, we seek to put Massachusetts fully on record in support of life-saving stem cell research.

Embryonic stem cell research and somatic cell nuclear transfer holds promise for alleviating the suffering and saving the lives of more than 100 million Americans. These Americans are afflicted by diseases and injuries such as juvenile diabetes, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Lou Gehrig's disease, heart and spinal cord afflictions and cancer. We believe that it is our moral and religious obligation to save human life and alleviate human suffering.

We believe that all human life is sacred. We believe that research involving human tissue can and must be done with respect, regulated with proper safeguards, and undertaken for legitimate and achievable medical goals.

Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell research hold the promise to therapies for many human afflictions. They hold the promise to improving and perhaps radically restoring full life to those who are suffering, real people who are our mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, brothers, sisters and friends.

We believe that our great Commonwealth with its abundant wealth of biomedical talent should be at the forefront of championing this cause for the common good. Therefore we urge you as legislators to encourage a climate where this important research and scientific advancement continues, providing for the afflicted citizens of our Commonwealth, and for the people of the world the promise of the full blessings of life.

Sincerely,

(Signers of this petition are expressing their personal view. Religious affiliations are given for the purpose of identification only.)
